Hope y’all managed to stay warm during the big freeze. We’re pretty lucky that we don’t see weather like this too often around here, so when it does hit, it’s definitely a shock to the system.
Like many districts in the area, we had snow days yesterday and today, which feels like a nice little bonus. It’s given us a chance to slow down, stay home, and squeeze in some extra family time. Hopefully most of you were able to stay off the icy roads and ended up snuggling on the couch, cooking something warm, and playing in the snow like us!

🧡 Amplify Wilco Day Returns

The Gist: Williamson County is gearing up for its third annual 24 hour giving marathon starting March 4. Over 90 local nonprofits are participating, ranging from animal shelters to veterans services. You can support organizations like the Central Texas Food Bank with donations starting at just $5.
Why It Matters: This event keeps our donations local to ensure our specific neighbors and parks get the support they need. It is a great feeling to see our community show up so big for the groups that take care of us all year.
What’s Next: Early giving begins January 28 at AmplifyWilco.org. You can also sign up as a Fundraising Champion to help your favorite cause reach its goal.
🚰 Lake Travis tunnels support Leander, Cedar Park

The Gist: The Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority has completed all underground work on a new water delivery system beneath Lake Travis. Two 11-foot-wide tunnels and a deep water intake will allow water to be drawn even when lake levels drop. The system is designed to replace floating pump barges and support Leander, Cedar Park, and Round Rock.
Why It Matters: The project adds long-term water reliability as our cities continue to grow. It’s reassuring to know that critical infrastructure is being built with the future in mind.
📅 LHISD adjusts school calendar after weather closures

The Gist: Liberty Hill ISD is making calendar changes after multiple winter weather closures and a denied state waiver tied to professional development minutes. Since the waiver wasn’t approved, the district must make up lost instructional time to meet state requirements, which means students will attend school on several extra Fridays later this spring. Additionally, yesterday’s snow day will now be made up on Friday, Jan. 30, and today’s will be made up on Friday, Feb. 7.
Why It Matters: A lot of families are understandably frustrated, especially after planning work schedules, childcare, and travel around the calendar they were originally given. While safety always comes first and the district has to stay compliant with state rules, last-minute calendar changes can be a real headache for parents, students, and staff. Hopefully LHISD can take lessons from this year and build in more flexibility moving forward so families aren’t stuck adjusting plans mid-year again.

⛳ Mini Golf and More Headed to Cedar Park This Spring

817 C-Bar Ranch Trail, Cedar Park
PopStroke is planning a spring opening in Cedar Park, and we’re really excited about this one! We checked out the Scottsdale location last summer and it was pretty awesome. They’ve already opened a location in Austin, and with this being the mini golf concept co-owned by Tiger Woods’ company, TGR Ventures, it’s definitely one people have been watching for.
The new Cedar Park spot will have two 18-hole mini golf courses, a full-service restaurant, an ice cream parlor, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They’re also planning bars, a beer garden, yard games, and a playground, so it’s shaping up to be a really fun place to take the family or meet up with friends for a laid-back night out.

🌮 The Local Secret to Better Breakfast Tacos

14125 W State Hwy 29 Ste B-201, Liberty Hill
It is easy to see why Texas Taco Kitchen has become a reliable staple for the morning crowd. The draw is simple: fresh, house-made tortillas that elevate every custom burrito and breakfast taco.
While the five pepper hot sauce offers a proper wake-up call, the polite staff ensures the clean, bright dining room stays welcoming even during the rush. It’s a straightforward, quality find that hits the mark for a quick neighborhood bite.
