Have you been watching the Winter Olympics? We’ve had it on at our house, and it’s been really fun to watch with the kids. Grit is a big topic in our household and something we intentionally teach regularly, so there have been so many great, real-life teachable moments watching these athletes compete.

The early mornings, the falls, the comebacks, the years of practice behind one single performance… it’s such a powerful reminder of what perseverance actually looks like. Team USA has had some exciting moments on the slopes and the ice, and it’s been fun cheering on our athletes!

In today’s Scoop:

🏫 Faubion closes, transitions begin
🌟 Help adults grow and thrive
🔥 BBQ, heart, and savory bites
🌯 Cheesy, crispy, flavor-packed tacos

🚌 Faubion Elementary Rezoning Set for 2026-27

The Gist: Faubion Elementary will close at the end of this school year, with students moving to either Westside Elementary or Reed Elementary. The LISD board approved Scenario “B,” aligning elementary schools with their middle school feeders and allowing families to request transfers if preferred.

Why It Matters: While the decision hasn’t been easy for everyone and some families are understandably disappointed, the plan aims to balance class sizes and create smoother transitions into middle school. District leaders say the goal is to provide long-term stability, and some parents appreciate the effort to keep friend groups together and offer transfer flexibility.

What’s Next: Faubion students will receive priority for transfer requests, with fees waived through May 29.

✈️ AUS Opens West Infill Expansion

The Gist: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has opened its new West Infill project at the Barbara Jordan Terminal. The 75,000+ square foot expansion includes a new TSA checkpoint, more ticketing counters, upgraded baggage handling, and even new art installations and sustainability improvements.

Why It Matters: Even if you’re not a frequent flyer, it’s nice to know the airport is keeping up with how fast our area is growing. Fewer lines and a smoother experience make a difference whether you’re heading out of town. Anything that makes travel feel a little less stressful is a win to me!

🌊 $1M Flood Warning Grant for WilCo

The Gist: Williamson County commissioners approved a grant agreement Feb. 10 that could bring $1 million in flood warning equipment to areas prone to flash floods. The Texas Water Development Board funding could cover outdoor sirens, flood gauges, sensors and communication software testing and training. Project proposals are due by Dec. 31, and no local match is required.

Why It Matters: Better warning tools could help protect lives and property, especially in the county’s most vulnerable areas. It’s an investment that will hopefully make neighbors feel a little safer when the next big storm rolls in.
