With Faubion Elementary scheduled to close at the end of the current school year, Leander ISD will reassign students to Westside Elementary or Reed Elementary for the 2026-27 school year. The board approved the plan on February 5.

Approved rezoning plan

The district considered two options before approving scenario “B.” Under this plan, students currently zoned for Cedar Park Middle School will attend Westside Elementary, while students zoned for Henry Middle School will go to Reed Elementary. District leaders said this approach prioritizes alignment between elementary and middle school attendance zones, balances enrollment, and supports long-term planning for facilities and programs.

Scenario “A” would have sent all Faubion students to Westside Elementary to maintain the existing school community. However, it would have split the middle school feeder pattern for students currently zoned for Henry Middle School, which district leaders felt would reduce operational efficiency.

Community input and family options

The approved plan reflects feedback from a community survey. Families will continue to have options for intra-district transfers, with current Faubion students receiving priority and the transfer fee waived. The transfer window will remain open until May 29. District officials emphasized the importance of keeping peer groups together while maintaining balanced enrollment and consistent learning environments.

Future plans for the Faubion campus

An architecture firm has been approved to begin repurposing the Faubion campus. Potential uses include expanding New Hope High School, housing the Leander Extended Opportunity Center, or supporting Early College High School programs.
