Texas welcomes record-breaking retail project
Construction is underway on what will soon become the world’s largest Target store, rising in the growing Austin suburb of Liberty Hill. The new location, part of the Liberty Hill Crossing shopping complex at the intersection of US Highway 183 and State Highway 29, broke ground in July 2025 and is expected to be completed by June 2026.
According to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the 148,000-square-foot store will cost about $22 million to build. The project adds more than 20,000 square feet to the chain’s typical store size, which averages around 125,000 square feet nationwide.
A major addition to Liberty Hill Crossing
The massive Target will anchor Liberty Hill Crossing, a new retail and entertainment hub being developed on a stretch of land just north of Austin. The project represents one of the largest commercial investments to date for Liberty Hill, a fast-growing community that has attracted national attention for its rapid expansion and proximity to major regional employers.
The larger format will allow for expanded grocery, home goods, and clothing sections, along with upgraded in-store services. While details about specific features have not yet been released, the development is expected to include a Starbucks café and other familiar Target amenities.
Boosting local access and commerce
City officials and business leaders say the project will provide a major boost to Liberty Hill’s economy by attracting more visitors, creating jobs, and expanding local retail options. The Liberty Hill Crossing complex is expected to draw shoppers from throughout Williamson County and beyond once it opens in 2026.
With construction now progressing, the new Target is set to become both a regional retail landmark and a symbol of Liberty Hill’s continued growth.
