Northrop Grumman Invests $50 Million in Firefly Aerospace in Cedar Park

Partnership will expand launch capabilities and create new aerospace jobs locally

Northrop Grumman has announced a $50 million investment in Cedar Park-based Firefly Aerospace, strengthening a growing partnership between the two aerospace firms. The funding will support the development of new rocket technology and expand Firefly’s presence in the region.

Eclipse Rocket at the Center of the Partnership

The investment will help fund Firefly’s work on Eclipse, a medium-lift launch vehicle being jointly developed with Northrop Grumman. Eclipse combines elements of Firefly’s Alpha rocket and Northrop’s Antares vehicle, with a planned payload capacity of up to 16,000 kilograms to low-Earth orbit.

The rocket is slated to debut in 2026, with missions expected to include space station resupply, national security operations, commercial satellite deployment, and scientific research.

Big Step for Local Space Company

Firefly, located at 1320 Arrow Point Drive in Cedar Park, has quickly grown into a key player in the commercial space industry. The company recently gained attention when its Blue Ghost mission became the first private commercial lander to reach the moon.

This latest investment signals Northrop Grumman’s confidence in Firefly’s ability to deliver innovative launch solutions and marks Cedar Park’s continued emergence as a center for aerospace innovation.

Economic and Strategic Impact

Firefly CEO Jason Kim described the funding as a milestone for the company’s growth and for their shared mission with Northrop Grumman to build future launch systems like the Antares 330 and Eclipse. Local officials anticipate the partnership will bring additional high-skilled jobs to the area, although specific numbers have not been disclosed.
