City targets Nov. 19 completion date
Leander city officials announced that construction on the Leander Senior Activity Center is on track to finish by November 19. The update came during the City Council’s October 16 meeting, where Russell Alabastro, capital improvements project manager for the Public Works Department, shared that final work is underway.
Originally scheduled for completion in October, the project experienced a few minor delays. Crews are now finalizing fire and sprinkler installations, laying network cabling, and pouring concrete for sidewalks and courtyard areas.
Years in the making
Located at 11880 Hero Way W., Suite 600, the senior center has been a city priority for nearly a decade. Funding for the facility was approved in the 2016 bond package, but construction faced multiple setbacks, including pandemic-related delays. The project finally broke ground in May 2024.
Designed for community connection
Once complete, the building will include a multipurpose room, full kitchen, fitness area, activities room, staff offices, and flexible spaces to support programs for Leander’s senior residents.
City officials have not yet confirmed a date for the grand opening but said the announcement will follow after construction is complete and safety inspections are finalized.
