Leander’s surge

Leander’s rapid growth is showing no signs of slowing. A new study by MovingPlace ranked the suburb’s 78641 ZIP code as the fourth most popular destination for movers in the United States so far in 2025.

Between January and May, 3,349 inbound moves were recorded in 78641, according to MovingPlace’s analysis of more than 6.38 million relocations nationwide. The report highlights Leander as an attractive choice for families and young professionals thanks to strong schools, master-planned communities, outdoor amenities, and proximity to Austin’s job market.

“This fast-growing suburb is sought after for its excellent school system, planned communities, and outdoor recreational opportunities,” the report noted. “Leander offers residents the chance to enjoy the vibrant Austin tech scene while living in a quieter, more affordable area with plenty of new housing developments.”

Earlier this year, Leander also earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 list of the best places to live in the country.

Texas dominates the list

Texas ZIP codes claimed six of the top 10 spots in MovingPlace’s ranking:

  • No. 1: 77433 in Cypress, with 3,638 inbound moves

  • No. 2: 78130 in New Braunfels, with 3,486 moves

  • No. 4: 78641 in Leander, with 3,349 moves

  • No. 5: 77493 in Katy, with 3,215 moves

  • No. 8: 75071 in McKinney, with 2,895 moves

  • No. 10: 78253 in San Antonio, with 2,883 moves

Florida’s Winter Garden (34787) and Arizona’s Queen Creek (85142) were among the few non-Texas ZIPs to break into the top ranks.
