Recent MoneyGeek Analysis Places Our Community 7th in State Rankings
Leander has earned impressive recognition for its commitment to public safety, securing the seventh spot among Texas' safest small cities according to a recent analysis by MoneyGeek, a personal finance site.
How Safety Was Measured
The comprehensive study examined FBI crime data from more than 1,000 small towns and cities nationwide with populations between 30,000 and 100,000 residents. Researchers didn't just look at raw crime statistics - they calculated the actual economic impact of crime in each community based on research from professors at the University of Miami and the University of Colorado Denver.
This methodology considers multiple factors including direct losses suffered by victims, resulting medical care costs, property loss, and legal system expenses. For Leander, this translated to a crime cost per capita of only $207, significantly lower than many comparable cities across Texas.
Texas Safety Landscape
While Southlake topped the Texas rankings (placing 47th nationally) with the lowest violent crime rate and crime cost per capita in the state, Leander's seventh-place showing demonstrates our community's strong commitment to safety. For comparison, the analysis identified Port Arthur as having the highest violent crime rate among small Texas cities, while Weslaco showed the highest property crime rate, and Longview had the highest total crime cost.
Community Achievement
This recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of our local law enforcement, city leadership, and residents who contribute to maintaining a safe environment for everyone. The ranking provides statistical confirmation of what many residents already experience in their daily lives - a secure community where families can thrive.
This safety designation adds to the growing list of positive attributes that make Leander an attractive place to live, work, and raise a family in the Central Texas region.
