Early departure announced
Leander residents learned at the Sept. 18 council meeting that Mayor Christine DeLisle will be stepping away from her role earlier than planned. DeLisle told attendees that her family has decided to move, leading her to conclude her service on Oct. 16.
Pro tem steps in
Mayor Pro Tem Na’Cole Thompson will handle mayoral duties once DeLisle leaves. DeLisle said she is spending the coming weeks working closely with Thompson to make the transition as seamless as possible.
“She’s in her third year as pro tem, and there’s a reason for that,” DeLisle said of Thompson’s readiness to lead.
Next steps for the city
According to city spokesperson Ty Meighan, DeLisle’s resignation is not official until a letter is submitted to the city secretary. After that, council members will schedule a special election to fill the unexpired term. The election must be held within 120 days of the resignation’s acceptance.
DeLisle first took office in 2021 and won re-election in 2024. Her term was originally set to run until May 2027.
Looking back
DeLisle emphasized that she is not seeking another position in government and that she leaves office proud of her record. She also said she has confidence that city leadership will continue to serve residents well.
“We want to ensure a smooth handoff,” she said. “I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together.”
