City approves incentive package for major expansion
Firefly Aerospace has secured approval from the Cedar Park City Council for up to $1 million in economic incentives to relocate and expand its headquarters within the city. The deal, approved October 23, supports the company’s plan to occupy a 44,000-square-foot facility at 2203 Scottsdale Drive, investing at least $3.1 million in the new site and increasing its workforce to more than 500 employees.
The new headquarters, located in the 95-acre New Hope Corporate Park, will replace Firefly’s current 28,000-square-foot facility about a mile away. Cedar Park officials said the incentives recognize the company’s continued commitment to the community, where Firefly has operated since relocating from California in 2014.
High-growth phase for Texas’ largest private space employer
Founded as a private space company focused on launch vehicles and lunar landers, Firefly Aerospace has become one of Cedar Park’s largest employers, now operating across more than 275,000 square feet of facilities in the region.
Earlier this year, Firefly raised $868 million through its IPO, marking one of the biggest public offerings by a Central Texas company in the past decade. The firm has also earned national recognition for its lunar achievements, becoming the first private company to land on the moon and completing the longest commercial mission on the lunar surface.
In 2029, Firefly is set to deliver multiple NASA rovers to the lunar South Pole under a $176.7 million contract.
Incentive terms and job creation goals
Under the agreement, Firefly will receive the first half of its incentive funding after signing a lease by the end of 2026, maintaining 204 full-time headquarters positions, and adding 215 new jobs with a combined annual payroll of $58.7 million.
An additional $500,000 will be available if the company adds another 85 jobs and invests $2.4 million more in facility improvements by December 2027, bringing the total payroll to $100.4 million. The incentives also include employee relocation bonuses of up to $1 million for workers purchasing homes or lots within Cedar Park.
Strengthening Central Texas’ aerospace hub
Firefly’s expansion reinforces the region’s growing reputation as a hub for aerospace innovation. Both Cedar Park and Williamson County have invested heavily in space-related infrastructure through the Central Texas Spaceport Development Corporation, aimed at supporting satellite and rocket production.
Cedar Park Economic Development Officer Arthur Jackson praised Firefly’s growth and loyalty, noting the city’s role in supporting the company “through both good times and challenges.” Firefly leaders said the expansion will help them scale production to meet rising demand in the defense, exploration, and commercial space markets.
