🚧 Could Hwy 29 become a freeway?

The last week of school always brings such a mix of emotions.

Mostly, I’m thrilled that I get to have my babies home with me for the summer. I’m ready for slower mornings, little adventures, and extra time together. But it’s also so bittersweet because they’re growing up so fast. Somehow, after this week, I’ll have a second grader and a fourth grader!

We wrapped up the year with Field Day at Reunion Ranch this past week, which was such a fun reminder of how special this season is. If you haven’t been, it’s truly an incredible venue.

Here’s to summer, sweet memories, and soaking up these next 12 weeks while we can.

The Gist: Williamson County is working on shorter-term fixes to ease heavy traffic along Hwy 29 between Georgetown and Liberty Hill. That includes bypass connectors meant to move drivers around busy town centers and major intersections. A much bigger idea is also being discussed: a future TxDOT-led, limited-access freeway stretching from I-35 in Georgetown to US 281 in Burnet. But officials say that plan is still in the very early stages.

Why It Matters: Anyone driving Hwy 29 lately has felt how fast this stretch is changing. For many locals, it’s become one of the area’s biggest daily slowdowns as Georgetown and Liberty Hill keep growing. The near-term bypass work could help, but the bigger Hwy 29 rebuild is likely a long way off, with studies, funding, and construction timelines still to be figured out.

The Gist: Leander has officially opened its new 12,000-square-foot Senior Activity Center with fitness rooms, social spaces, classes, games, and wellness programs for adults 55 and older. The center also serves as the home base for the city’s Active Adult Program.

Why It Matters: Places like this can make a huge difference in daily life, especially for older adults looking for connection, activity, and community close to home. It gives people somewhere to gather that’s more about belonging than just programming.
