Groundbreaking details
Cedar Park will soon be the next Central Texas city to gain access to GFiber, Google Fiber’s high-speed internet service. A ceremonial groundbreaking is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, at the intersection of Aster Street and Pecan Wood Drive. Representatives from GFiber and the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce will be present to mark the start of construction.
What GFiber will offer
Once operational, GFiber will provide 8-gigabit internet service to both households and businesses in Cedar Park. The service will include no data caps, no equipment fees, and no annual contracts, making it a competitive option in a market that already includes providers such as EarthLink, Spectrum, and AT&T.
Background on the agreement
The City of Cedar Park approved an agreement with GFiber in May 2024, giving the company the ability to install, operate, and maintain its fiber-optic network throughout the community. In return for access to public rights-of-way, Google Fiber Texas, LLC will pay the city a license fee equal to 1% of its gross revenue.
Looking ahead
The expansion is expected to give Cedar Park residents faster internet speeds and more provider choices, while offering businesses an additional tool to support growth and connectivity in the region.
