Cedar Park Raises Speed Limits on Key Roads

City Council approves increased limits on New Hope Drive and Scottsdale Drive for smoother traffic flow

What Changed?

At their April 24 meeting, Cedar Park City Council approved speed limit increases along two important local corridors: New Hope Drive and Scottsdale Drive. These changes aim to better match current traffic conditions and improve overall travel efficiency for drivers.

New Hope Drive Gets a 5 MPH Boost

The speed limit on New Hope Drive has been raised from 40 mph to 45 mph on the stretch running between the 183A Toll Road and Cottonwood Creek Trail. This segment sees steady traffic as a key east-west route, and the increase reflects improved road design and traffic patterns that safely accommodate a slightly faster pace.

Scottsdale Drive Sees Two Speed Adjustments

Scottsdale Drive’s limits were adjusted in two zones:

  • From 183A Toll Road down to about 2000 feet south of Volta Drive, the limit rose from 30 mph to 35 mph.

  • Continuing south from that point down to the intersection with New Hope Drive, the speed limit was increased from 35 mph to 40 mph.

These changes help to standardize the flow along Scottsdale Drive, a busy connector road supporting both residential and commercial traffic.

Why the Changes Matter

Adjusting speed limits is a common practice as neighborhoods develop and traffic volumes evolve. By aligning limits with current conditions, Cedar Park aims to improve safety by reducing speed variance among vehicles and helping traffic move more smoothly during peak times.

What’s Next?

Drivers should watch for new signage reflecting the updated limits and adjust accordingly. City officials will continue monitoring traffic patterns and may consider additional changes as the Cedar Park area grows.
