New store location
Aldi is preparing to open a new grocery store in Cedar Park, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The store would move into the former Big Lots location at 850 N. Bell Boulevard, about half a mile from an H-E-B.
Project timeline and cost
The project is scheduled to begin renovations on September 22 and finish in early February 2026, with an estimated cost of $1.75 million. Plans include replacing signage and siding, modifying entrances, and installing a freezer, cooler, and other equipment in the roughly 23,600-square-foot building. The state filing notes that details are preliminary and could change.
Design and development team
SGA Design Group is listed as the project’s design firm. The company works with a variety of national retailers, including Aldi, Walmart, Target, and Lowe’s.
Aldi’s Central Texas presence
Aldi currently has five stores in Central Texas, with locations in Pflugerville, Georgetown, Killeen, and Temple. The grocery chain operates 128 stores across Texas and more than 2,400 nationwide. Its U.S. headquarters is in Illinois.
Cedar Park retail growth
Cedar Park has seen significant retail growth in recent years. According to second-quarter data from Partners, the city has 1.12 million square feet of retail space in its construction pipeline, making it one of the most active suburban markets in the Austin area.
Another grocer in the works?
Another grocery option may also be on the horizon. City documents from late 2024 linked Trader Joe’s to a planned eight-acre mixed-use development about two miles from the proposed Aldi site. Both Aldi and Trader Joe’s are owned by the Albrecht family but operate independently.
Neither Aldi nor the property owner has commented publicly on the Cedar Park project.
